A few suggestions to better help you

I wish to find a carpooling buddy. How should I go about it? There are several options. You can:
  1. Add a regular itinerary (days of the week) These are everyday trips, to go to work and come back home.
    • The first step is to define your departure in one of these two ways:
      • Preset departure: in this section, you can choose your province, your category, your sub-category and your location among the different options, information which is constantly updated.
      • Departure postal/zip code: in this section, you can enter your point of origin postal or zip code, such as your residence.
    • The second step is to define your destination in one of these three ways:
      • Preset destination: in this section, you can choose your province, your category, your sub-category and your location among the different options, information which is constantly updated.
      • Destination postal/zip code: in this section, you can enter your destination postal or zip code, such as your work place.
      • Sustainable events: in this section, you can choose from a list of sustainable events, and then choose the appropriate province, location and date.
  2. Add a onetime / long-distance trip (specific date). These are one-time trips, from Montreal to Quebec, for example.
  3. You want to attend a sustainable event? When there are sustainable events to choose from, you can follow the same steps as parts 1 and 2. If there are no current sustainable events, you will be redirected to the home page.
Messaging (by e-mail or SMS)
  • How do I contact another member?
    • The first condition is to LOG IN, which means entering you username and password. If you are not registered, you can do so before logging on. If you do not register or log in, you will be redirected to the home page and you will be asked to log in or register.
    • You can contact a member by e-mail or SMS messaging. If the member you want to contact is in the list of research results or in the list of offers, you can contact them by clicking on the link associated to them (where you see their number and the little information available). The section "Contact this member" will appear at the bottom of their detailed profile. You can contact them either by e-mail or by SMS messaging, if they accept to receive any.
  • If I do contact another member, how will s/he be notified of my message?
    • If you contact a member, they will receive an e-mail letting them know that they have received a message in their inbox on the Website.
  • How do I reply to members that have sent me messages
    • In the menu found on the left side of the screen (or, in some cases, the right side), click on "My Messages". In your inbox will be the message you received; if you click on the message, you will have the option to answer it.
  • How do I know if the member I sent my message to has read it?
    • In the menu found on the left side of the screen (or, in some cases, the right side), click on "My messages" (the unread messages will be in parenthesis). Your sent messages can be found in the "Sent messages" section. Messages will be marked either "Message read" or "Unread message".
  • If I send a message, will the member have access to my e-mail address?
    • No, all the information contained in your profile is strictly confidential. Your e-mail, date of birth, name and surname are for the exclusive use of The Carpooling Network. You are the only person who can decide to share your information.
The incentives
  • I would like to have access to the different available incentives.
    • Parking permits: if your employer or institution offers this incentive, you can request a parking permit. To do so, click on "Parking permit request" found in the central menu of the home page. You will be redirected to the "Parking permit request" page, where you will be able to choose one of three available options: Work/study parking, Crew meeting point parking, or Connection incentive parking. Once you made your choice, follow the instructions.

    • Guaranteed return home program: in the menu found in the central section of the home page, click on "Request a guaranteed return home payment". If you are part of a company or institution that offers this service, you can request a guaranteed return home payment. Otherwise, you will get the following message: You are not linked to any company or institution; please check to see if your employer/institution is a partner of The Carpooling Network.
The extras
  • Survey on your transportation habits: you are already a carpooler or already use active or mass transportation? If such is the case, we invite you to complete the survey on your transportation habits. The Carpooling Network collects information on people's travels in order to calculate user statistics regarding GHG production and saved dollars. It is very useful for us to have this type of information, which enables us to know our exact ecological footprint as well as that of our employer or institution. To have access to the advantages available on our Website, we ask all users to complete the survey on transportation habits at least once every 90 days. This way, we can have a better understanding of our contribution as well as the amount of GHG and money we save.

  • The Calculator: the "Calculator" is a tool that lets you calculate the costs of use of a vehicle, the costs to share with your carpool buddies and GHG emissions. If you click on the link found in the central menu of the home page, you will be redirected to a page where you will be asked to fill out a form, after which you will get the total costs of use of your vehicle. The resulting calculations can be used as an indication for carpoolers to share costs, whether the trips are regular or once in a while. Please take note that the services offered by The Carpooling Network must not be used for commercial purposes. The way to share transportation costs (fuel, tolls, parking, use of a vehicle...) is freely agreed upon between members. The cost sharing calculation tool available to members on our Website is there only for their information. Drivers and passengers agree to respect all arrangements pertaining to the agreed sharing of costs, schedules and places of meeting.

  • Traffic cameras: The Carpooling Network now displays for all its members the traffic cameras found on road networks. You can save your favourite ones, change them, plan your travels more efficiently, etc. All you need to do is click on the link found on the central menu of the home page and follow the instructions.
Subscription
  • I am not a member of The Carpooling Network but I checked out the carpooling offers and not one suits me. Why should I subscribe?
    • The first reason is so that other members (present of future) can communicate with you. Another reason is that our system works with itineraries and not with points of origin/destination. This means that if a member is leaving from a point a little north of where you are and goes to a point a little south of where you are going, they will still be in your search results because they can pick you up on their way. All the results you will obtain will be in a corridor starting from point A and ending in point B. All itineraries offered within this corridor will appear in the results. Therefore, entering an itinerary will give you a better chance to find results that are much more compatible with what you are searching for, than simply looking at the carpooling offers already available.

  • Why should I provide my date of birth?
    • Your date of birth will only be needed to define your age and to retrieve your password, should you forget it.

  • I would like to subscribe, but I do not want others to see my personal information.
    • All the information contained in your profile is strictly confidential. Your e-mail, date of birth, name and surname are for the exclusive use of The Carpooling Network. You are the only one that can decide to share your personal information with another member. The only information that is available to other members is your gender, your age and the brand of your vehicle, if you own one (i.e: Woman, 29 years old, 1998 Honda Civic); furthermore, our internal messaging service ensures the confidentiality of your e-mail address.

  • I do not want to be contacted by other members anymore. How can I deactivate my personal profile?
    • Your profile and your carpooling offers are two completely different things. If you deactivate or remove your itineraries, they will disappear from the search results and the list of entered carpool offers.

  • I would like to cancel my subscription and delete my profile from The Carpooling Network.
    • You can contact us at any time by using this form and asking us clearly to destroy all information pertaining to your subscription.

  • I am already registered but I forgot my password. How can I retrieve it?
    • In the menu found on the left side of the screen (or, in some cases, the right side), click on "Forgot your password?". You will be asked two questions, after which you will receive an e-mail with a new password.

  • I changed my e-mail address and the site logged me out. Why?
    • All the information contained in your profile can be modified without being disconnected, except your e-mail address. The reason you get disconnected when you change e-mails is that you need to confirm this new address by retrieving your new password there. Your itineraries and messaging archives remain unchanged.
Itineraries
  • How can I add an itinerary?
    • In the menu found on the left side of the screen (or, in some cases, the right side), click on "My itineraries". You will be able to choose between adding a weekly itinerary (one that you do every week) and adding a onetime / long distance trip.

  • Why should I add an itinerary?
    • Adding an itinerary will enable you to see all carpooling offers that match yours. Non-relevant itineraries will therefore be excluded from the results. Furthermore, other members will be able to see your itinerary in their results.

  • I tried finding my city in the section "Carpooling offers" but it was not there. Why should I still enter an itinerary?
    • Firstly, so that a member can contact you and secondly, because our search engine works with itineraries and not points of origin/destination. For example, if a member is leaving from a point a little north of where you are and travels to a point a little south of where you are going, they will still be in your search results because they can pick you up on their way. Therefore, entering an itinerary will give you a better chance to find results that are much more compatible with what you are searching for, than simply looking at the carpooling offers already available.

  • If I disable my carpooling offer, will other members still be able to contact me?
    • If you disable your carpooling offer, it will remain in your list and you will still be able to see other offers, but it will become invisible to other members.

  • How can I specify the time of my return home at the end of my school/work day?
    • In the case of weekly itineraries, your return trip must be entered as a second itinerary. To make it simpler, you can simply check the box that says, "Create opposite itinerary at the end of the day".

  • How can I delete an itinerary in "My itineraries"?
    • You can delete an itinerary by clicking on the red "X" found on its right.

  • Why do we use postal codes to find an itinerary?
    • When you enter your postal code, our search engine can deduce your street name, city and province. The objective is to simplify data entry. Furthermore, this ensures syntax consistency for all city and street names.

  • When I enter my postal code, the wrong street name is given. Why is that?
    • Many cities use the same postal code for more than one street, or even for the whole town. Therefore, the name of the street found is only for your information. You can modify it when you confirm your itinerary.
Employer/institution carpooling program
  • What is the Employer/institution carpooling program?
    • It is a program where members' profiles are authenticated when their employer or institution is a partner of The Network. If, for example, you are a Cegep de Granby student or employee, once the person responsible for the program will have authenticated your profile, it will contain the Cegep logo, which will be visible to other members when they will see your itinerary in their offers and their results. The aim is to increase trust between members.

  • How can I become a certified member?
    • Click on the Employer/institution carpooling program link situated in the middle section of the home page. If your employer or institution is part of the program, select them in the drop-down menu.

  • My employer/school does not offer the program. What can I do if I want them to become a partner?
    • You can spread the word to your employer or your school about The Carpooling Network by clicking here and by following the instructions that will appear.
The Carpooling Network and its partners
  • Why are the partners' Websites offering the same services as this Website?
    • The Carpooling Network offers its partners (cities, businesses and institutions) the possibility of having their own carpooling Web page so that it looks like their Website. However, these pages are part of The Carpooling Network and none of the information on individual members is available to the partners.

  • I would like to become a partner of The Carpooling Network. How should I proceed?
  • Can I log in to any of the partners' Websites to access my profile?
    • Yes, all the partners' Website offer the same services; only the appearance differs.
